REGION: The 2014 vintage was a challenge for Mendoza, beginning with record-breaking summer heat before transitioning to above average rainfall and cooler than normal temperatures and a condensed harvest. Vineyards for these wines are located in the foothills of the Andes Mountains at an altitude between 2,000 and 3,600 feet – some of the highest vineyards in the world. Soil is composed of loose sand over clay, and the climate is dry and continental. Surrounding rivers provide access to water for good irrigation, despite the little rainfall.

TASTING NOTES: The nose shows juicy, dark red fruits such as raspberry and cherry, in addition to spicy notes. On the palate, plum, black cherry, mocha, and toasted oak flavors integrate with a full, smooth body.

FOOD PAIRING: Smoked eel and beetroot salad
